I can't explain to you how much I loved this! Everything you tied into the bigger picture and message was amazing. I really love reading your post because I know I am going to be entertained and educated. I wanted to pull my favorite line and tell you what it was but I can't pick one, there were so many great ones.

Loved this. I ended up a “boy mom” and I love it; his dad and I are raising him to be a kind, empathetic, responsible human. We work really hard to talk about and deconstruct toxically gendered behavior, more than ever now that he’s in middle school. People should have choices, period.

This was so good, and I really appreciate you writing about it. I have a 2-year old girl, and when she was born (actually from the moment I was pregnant) I did the whole "no pink for this baby!" thing, telling everyone not to buy her anything pink. It felt like the "right" thing to do, trying to open her up to more possibilities than the "girl color" of pink. But also, I can see how it was selfish of me—I hated pink when I was a little girl, so I was realistically trying to just make her like me. And then you know, lo and behold, she is her own person and has shown me that she has her own preferences and likes and dislikes, whether they align with mine or not. I always let her choose what she wants to wear each morning, and if anything pink is clean, she always chooses pink. She's happiest if every item of clothing is pink, down to the socks. I've gotten to where I am happy to let her choose and dress in pink if that's what she wants, but I still felt like I had to tell other parents: "I didn't do this! It's her! She chose it!" But your article is making me think differently about it. You're right that all kids should be free to be who they are and like what they like. And that includes pink, glitter, dresses, and princesses. It's not something I should feel I need to explain. She likes what she likes, and she is who she is! I should learn from her and be more like that too. Anyways, thank you for that reminder. <3
